Організація Північноатлантичного договору є міжурядовою військовий союз на основі Північноатлантичного договору, який був підписаний 4 квітня 1949 г. Це політичний і військовий союз країн-членів з Європи і Північної Америки, які згодні надати військову і економічну безпеку для кожного інший. НАТО не робить всі свої рішення на основі консенсусу і кожної з країн-членів, незалежно від того, наскільки великий або маленький, має рівне право голосу.
